Size 3.75 mm and 4 mm (US 5 and 6) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. GAUGE
21 sts and 36 rows = 10 cm – 4 ins with 4 mm (US 6) needles in garter st. STITCHES

Knit every st and every row

HAT
With 3.75 mm (US 5) needles, cast on 79 (79 – 85) sts and work in K1/P1 rib patt for 6.5 (7-7.5 cm) - 2 ½ (2 ¾ - 3) ins ending with row 1 of rib patt. Change to larger needles and continue in gt st until work, from beg, measures 13 (16-17) cm – 5 (6 ¼ - 6 ¾) ins or desired length.

Shape crown as foll:

1st Row: K4, *K2tog, K4*, rep from * to * to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. 66 (66-71) sts remain.

2nd and every alternate row: Knit across.

3rd Row: K3, *K2tog, K3*, rep from * to * to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. 53 (53-57) sts remain.

5th Row: K2, *K2tog, K2*, rep from * to * to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. 40 (40-43) sts remain.

7th Row: K1, *K2tog, K1*, rep from * to * to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. 27 (27-29) sts remain.

9th Row: K1, *K2tog, rep from * to end of row. 14 (14-15) sts remain.

Cut yarn leaving a tail long enough for seam. Thread through remaining stitches, pull and draw together. With right side facing, join seam to half way down K1/P1 rib border, reverse seam for turn back.

BOOTIES
With 3.75 mm (US 5) needles cast on 31 (33-37) sts and work in K1/P1 rib patt for 6.5 (7-7.5) cm - 2 ½ (2 ¾ - 3) ins ending with row 1 of rib patt. Change to larger needles and continue in gt st, knit next 3 rows.

Shape instep

K21 (23-25), turn.

Next row: K11 (13-13), turn.

Knit 16 (20-20) rows on these 11 (13-13) sts then break off yarn. RS facing, rejoin yarn at point of right hand needle, pick up and knit 8 (10-10) sts (1 in each ridge) up right hand side of instep. K11 (13-13) sts across top, dec 1 st at center, pick up and K8 (10-10) sts (1 in each ridge) down left hand side of instep and knit across rem 10 (10-12) sts. 46 (52-56) sts.

Work 9 (11-13) rows in gt st.

Shape foot

Row 1: K1, K2tog, K15 (17-19), K2tog tbl, K6 (8-8), K2tog, K15 (17-19), K2tog tbl, K1.

Rows 2 & 4: Knit across.

Row 3: K1, K2tog, K14 (16-18), K2tog tbl, K4 (6-6), K2tog, K14 (16-18), K2to tbl, K1.

Cast off rem 38 (44-48) sts. Sew underfoot and back seam reversing seam for turn back.
